La 95esima edizione degli Academy Awards presentata da Jimmy Kimmel si è conclusa senza particolari sorprese, ma anzi rispettando ampiamente i pronostici che vedevano Everything Everywhere All At Once (EEAAO) ampiamente favorito in tutte le categorie più importanti. Il film ha di fatti vinto sette premi: miglior film (A24), regia (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, meglio conosciuti come i Daniels), attrice protagonista (Michelle Yeoh), attrice non protagonista (Jamie Lee Curtis), attore non protagonista (Ke Huy Quan), sceneggiatura originale (Daniels) e miglior montaggio (Paul Rogers). Per trovare un vincitore come miglior film che ha portato a casa così tante statuette come EEAAO bisogna tornare indietro nel 2008 quando Slumdog Millionaire vinse 8 oscar.
A interrompere il monopolio dei premi nelle categorie principali c’è la vittoria di Brendan Fraser come miglior attore non protagonista per The Whale per la regia di Darren Aronofksy.
Michelle Yeoh è la prima attrice di origini asiatiche a vincere l’ambita statuetta come miglior attrice, mentre per Brendar Fraser The Whale ha rappresentato il ritorno sulle scene dopo oltre un decennio di inattività dovuto a problemi personali, di salute e a una latente depressione scatenata da un episodio di molestie di cui è stato vittima.
In modo analogo, anche per Ke Huy Quan si è trattato di un ritorno sulle scene dopo un quasi oblio rispetto ai due ruoli in Indiana Jones e il Tempio Maledetto e I Goonies che da ragazzino gli avevano regalato una certa notorietà.
Contrariamente a quanto annunciato in un primo momento, Lady Gaga si è esibita in Hold Your Hand dalla colonna sonora di Top Gun: Maverick che ha vinto nella categoria miglior sonoro.
